Open tourn. Feb 25th Maddoux Bay

West helena bass club is having an open tournament on Feb 25th at Maddoux Bay. No membership required to fish. If we can have 20 boats first place will be 800 dollars. That means at least 40 anglers signed up. Entry fee is 40 dollars per person. Please let everyone know. Launch from Maddoux Bay landing and there is a 5 dollar launch fee. Fish time is 7:00am to 2:30pm.

Important Kickoff Meeting

Our kickoff meeting will be February 2 at Farm Bureau office in West Helena. Meeting starts at 6:00pm. Please be there because we will be voting on commitiy members that will be making the decisions on our backup lakes if a scheduled lake or river has a unaccessible boat ramp. Commitiy members will also make decisions on anything that might happen during tHe year. Have to be a paid member by the meeting to be a commitiy member.

Barton QB Club Fishing tournament moved to Maddox Bay this Saturday July 23rd

The Barton QB club tournament has been moved to Maddox Bay this saturday the 23rd of July. The Maddox Bay landing will be used for the tournament and it is a 5 dollar launch fee. Entry Fee is 50 dollars pre boat. There will be a 50% payback and food prizes and more. Launch time is 5:30am and weigh in time is 2:30pm. If you have any questions please contact Derward Mauldin at 870-338-4524 or myself at 870-995-2445. So please come out and support the Barton Bears. There will be alot of fish caught and it will be a very good and fun tournament.

July 16th a Mellwood has been changed to Maddox Bay

Due to high water and limited boat ramp access the Mellwood tournament has been moved to Maddox Bay. You will be responsible for your 5 dollar launch fee. I will not be at this tournament but I will have someone running everything. Try to be in the water by 5:00am because should be able to launch by 5:15am and going to weigh in at 2:30pm. Still 35 dollar entry fee which includes big bass. There will be a trash fish pot if anyone wants to get in it. I hope that all you will catch plenty of fish and please be careful. Also remember that if you are going to lock to Arkansas River to let the guy running the tournament know

24th Annual Stewart Warren Memorial Bubby Bass Tourn.

The 24th Annual Stewart Warren Memorial Bubby Bass Tournament is on Saturday, July 9th and going to be held at Maddox Bay Landing. Entry fee is going to be 60 dollars per boat which includes big bass. Have your boats in the water by 5:30am. You can either use a big boat or little boat and you can also drag your boat. All Boats types are welcomed. You have to use the same boat you blast off in and no mechanical help dragging. Public Lakes only and no private lakes. There is a 5 fish Limit. So please tell all your freinds to come join the fun. This tournament is a fund raising tournament for the Turner Syndrome Society. Remember this tournament is not only for little boats that can be dragged it is for all boats big or small.

Well despite all the weather changes that we took, there was alot of fish caught for the Horseshoe event. The winners for today had a 5 fish limit weighing in at 21lbs even was Michael Damron and Tommy Heard. Great Job you two. Second place was William Loyd and Todd Chapman weighing 5 fish that weighed 19lbs 10ozs. Rounding up third place was Foster Mitchell and Pokey Rohrscheib having a 5 fish limit weighing 18lbs 8ozs. Foster had big fish of the day weighing in at 7lbs which has took over the big fish of the year lead.

Our third tournament of the year was a great turn out with 20 boats. There were alot of fish caught by everyone and besides the wind the weather was good. I want to say thanks to Larry Helmke, Rob Kendrick and Foster Mitchell for all the help with this tournament. Well the team of Rob Kendrick and Me(Scott Pryor) was fortunate enough to catch a limit of fish weighing in 17lbs 1oz to take the win for this event. We also had big bass weighing in at 4lbs 7ozs. Second Place was Foster Mitchell and Chris Worstell weighing in a limit that weighed 15lbs 5ozs. Third Place was Michael Buie and Tim Brock weighing in 14lbs 7ozs. The second tournament of the year at Old Town Lake was a good one for the club. We had 23 boats show up for this tournament. The weather was good besides the wind but it was a pretty day for the the bass club. I think since I have been president this is the first time I have won one. So it has been a while for me. The winners for this tournament was Scott Pryor and Rob Kendrick with a 3 fish limit weighing in at 19lbs4ozs. We had 3 bites all day long and they were the 3 bites you would want. Of course my partner caught 2 of them but it was still awesome. Second Place was a young man and new member by the name of Jared Thompson with a 5 fish limit of 17lbs6ozs. Third was Dustin Bonds and Tim Rawls weighing in 5 fish limit of 14lbs2ozs, who also had big fish weighing in at 6lbs15ozs. The team of Aric Pankey and Kenny Laxon making the pay cut with their fourth place finish weighing in a limit in the amount of 13lbs14ozs.

Well the first tournament of the year has came and gone. We had beautiful weather and conditions were great for a day of fishing. With no big surprise the team of William Loyd and Todd Chapman came up with the heaviest limit and biggest bass. They weighed in a 5 fish limit of 24 lbs 1 oz and big bass weighing in at 6 lbs. WOW. Second place weighing in at 16 lbs 12ozs was the team of Dustin Bond and Tim Rawls. Then 3rd place was taken by Chuck Halbert and Derward Mauldin at 15lbs 3 ozs. Great job to all the money winners. We had a total of 16 boats. We have 31 members signed up. So this means to make the classic this year you have to be in the top 16 in points to make it. I hope to see everyone in two weeks at Old Town Lake.

Nathan Spakes Benefit Tournament.

The Nathan Spakes Benefit tournament will be held at Maddox Bay in Holly Grove on Feb 5, 2011. The estimated launch time is going to be 7:00-7:30am depending on weather. I will be set up at 6:15am to sign you up. Enrty fee is 30 dollars per person including big bass. Weigh in time is going to be 2:30pm. I hope everyone can make it. Nathan Spakes Fund Raiser Fishing Tournament

Going to have a fruit jar tournament where we are put in some money and winner takes some and the rest of the money going to being given to Ryan Spakes. Ryan Spakes is a life long West Helena Bass club member and back before Christmas his son Nathan who has fished alot with us also had a very bad 4-wheeler accident. The 4 wheeler landed on Nathan's head cause serious damage. Nathan was flown to trauma center in memphis where he has been in the ICU and still is. Nathan's brain had alot of fluid on it and he had to have holes in his skull to relieve the pressure. Nathan though is expected to have a full recovery but it is going to be a very long process for him and his family. Well Ryan has health insurance but there is alot of cost that the insurance is not paying. So I would like to put a tourney together to show Ryan and Nathan our support as a club and to wish Nathan a speedy recovery. All money well be given to Nathan and his family. We will still will have a first place payout. Maddoux bay is the location right now but is subject to change. The date is the first weekend in February.

Kickoff Annual Meeting

At the Annual Kickoff meeting we are going to go over rules and how points are going to work. Need for everyone to be there if all possible, because there are going to be some voting on some issues. The meeting is going to be January 27, 2011 at the Phillips County Farm Bureau office in West Helena at 6:00pm. Also if all possible need everyone to try to pay there membership so I can go ahead and get the permit and insurance for Bear Creek and Storm Creek.

Guys I really enjoyed the 2010 year. I hope everyone else also did. Our Club is only good as it members and we have a GREAT club going here because of all of you. I really appreciate everyone who sold raffle tickets to help get our winnings up for the the classic and Angler of the year. Please tell everyone about us so we can even get bigger next year. I think this year we averaged around 18 boats which is GREAT. This club is alot of fun and very competitive. We are changing up the lakes for next year. The following lakes are in order but we are starting in February and skipping the month of August. We are still having the 7 lakes and you can drop your losest score out of the 6. To qualify for the classic you have to pay for all 7 tournaments, but only fish 5 of them. Now the Classic this coming year is not going to be used for angler of the year. How the angler of the year is going to work is the same point system as last year, 100 for 1st,99 for 2nd,98 for 3rd etc... You can still fish with anyone you would like, but you can only fish with a non-member one time. Non-members are only allowed to fish one time then if they fish again they have to pay for a membership. Now for the angler of the year if you fish with the same person every time and you two are leading in points after the 7th tournament then you two will split the angler of the year title and money. If you fish with different members and you are leading in points by yourself then you win the angler of the year title and money. If there is a tie it will be broken by biggest limit of fish. Now if two teams are tied the biggest limit wins the title or if two individual guys who may have fish together a few times but not every time the winner goes to biggest limit of fish. So there are the points changes. Now the lakes in order starting in February to September but skipping August. Classic will be first weekend in October again. Lakes in order, Merriasach(Ark River), Old Town, Peckerwood, Horseshoe @ Hughes, Indian Bay, Bear Creek and Storm Creek. I hope to see all of you there for next year. I should have schedule out soon

2010 Classic at Merriasach Results

Want to say congrautions to Jeremy Lindley for being the 2010 Winner of the West Helena Bass Club Classic. He took home 1,500 in cash which was Great. Jeremy had 5 fish limit weighing in at 15lbs 9 ozs. Second place was Todd Chapman who is also the 2010 Angler of the Year weighed in at 13lbs 11ozs. Todd took home 500 dollars for second place and another 750 dollars for angler of the year and he had alot of hardware to go with it. Congrats TODD for being Angler of the Year. Third place for the classic was Michael Buie with a weight of 13lbs 5ozs and also had big fish weighing in at 5lbs 8ozs. Buie took home 250 dollars for third place and another 180 for big bass. Great Job Buie. Thanks to James Warren, Ryan Spakes and Larry Helmke for there help.

Oct 1, 2010 Friday Night Meeting and Classic

I want to invite all paid members of the West Helena Bass Club to a Meeting this Friday night Oct 1, 2010. This is the meeting for the drawing of the lake for our classic. There will be food for everyone. We are having BBQ(pulled pork), bake beans, etc.. The meeting will start at 5:30pm at the Phillips County Farm Bureau Office. This is for all paid members to come join us and just hang out. It will be a fun time to socialize with everyone and talk about next year and what we can do to improve this club. Would like to add a different lake to the club for next year and would like ideas on that to toss around. Also all Raffle ticket money has to be turned in by this meeting, so I can get an ided how the angler of the year is going to pay out and money for the classic. Also a few awards are given out also for biggest limit of fish and largest fish for the 2010 year. So please come out and join us. 3rd Annual Michael Poe Memorial Bass Tournament

The 3rd Annual Michael Poe tournament will be held at Burnt Cane lake/9 Mile Bayou this Saturday Sept 25, 2010. Entry fee is 40 dollars per person. Start time is going to be 6:30am and weigh in at 2:00pm. Payout will be awarded accordingly based on number of Participants. All Proceeds will be donated to Michael and Johnny Poe Flying High Endowment and the Michael Dale Poe Memorial Fund. So Please come out and join us because this means alot to Michael Poe's Family. Burnt Cane Sept 18, 2010

We had a 16 boat turn out which was great for this late in the season. Looks like our point leaders finish up the regular season with a WIN. The Team of William Loyd and Todd Chapman take away first place with a total of 13 lbs 4 ozs and also take big bass weighing in at 4lbs 1oz. Second Place with a total weight of 10lbs 13 ozs was Jame Warren amd Kerry Ward. Then rounding out third was Kenny Laxon and Aric Pankey with the weight of 10lbs 11ozs. Big Trash fish of the day was a catfish weighing in at 4lbs1oz by Foster Mitchell and Lee Keirsey. Well guys I had alot of fun this year and I really appreciate all the guys who have helped me with these tournaments, Robbie Travis, Larry Helemke, Brian Bloesch, Ryan Spakes, James Warren, Rob Kendrick. Thanks alot guys for your help. Now I hope to see everyone at the Friday Night meeting on Oct 1, 2010 for a get together. Hopefully I will have food and This is when all raffle ticket money needs to be turned in. Also the biggest bag of fish for the year and biggest fish for the year will get there awards. We had a great turn for our August Tournament. We ended up with a total of 17 boats which is great. Unfortunely there can only be one Winner. The Father, Son Team of Ryan and Nathan Spakes had a awesome bag of fish weighing in at 19lbs4ozs which is Great for this time of year. Second Place and also big bass was the tandem James Warren and "KiKi" Kerry Ward with a sack weighing in at 16lbs1oz and big bass of 6lbs 9ozs. The guys to beat and the guys that are leading the club in points with a third place finish today weighing in at 13lbs6ozs, William Loyd and Todd Chapman. I really appreciate the help I get from everyone who helps. Thanks Rob Kendrick, James Warren and Kerry Ward. 2010 Barton Bear Quaterback Club Fishing Tournament

The 2010 Barton Bear Quaterback Club fishing tournament will be held at Indian Bay on July 17, 2010. So it is going to be this saturday. Bast off time is going to be daylight (5:30am or maybe sooner) and weigh in time going to be 1:30pm. You need to be there as early as you can because they might bast off earlier than expected. It is a five fish limit and there will be no dragging. Entry fee is going to be 40 dollars per boat and there might be a side trash fish pot. For more info you can call Mike Funk at 995-6504.

23th Annual Stewart Warren Memorial Bass Tournament at Indian Bay on July 10th

This tournament is going to be at Indian Bay on the White River Refuge at St. Charles. The Tournament is in Memory of Stewart Warren, a Fireman who was killed in the line of duty. Stewart Warren was the founder of this tournament that so many people loved and enjoyed. Stewart was one of those guys if he wasn't working he was fishing. Some say he might have been one of the greatest around here. Stewart's passion for fishing and this tournament was something you could not explain. He loved being a fireman and gave his life to save people. It will mean alot to alot of people if they have a good turn out for this tournament. Especially to Jody, Jennifer and James Warren, who are very avid fisherman and are childern of Stewart's. James Warren is also a member of the West Helena Bass club. All money raised from this tournament is going to donated to the Arkansas Childern Burn Center which is a great thing for these burn victims. This tournament is like no other tournament. In this tournament you can drag your boat to any place off the White River Refuge. Meaning you can drag over dry ground to get to a lake to fish but you do not have to drag if you do not want to. This Tournament is so unique in is own way because you can drag. It is different from our everyday tournament so it makes it exciting for all. Also you are allowed to weigh in 10 fish per boat. The entry fee is 50 dollars a boat and that includes big bass. There also will be a trash fish pot. So please come join the cause. Well it was a HOT day for the fishing. The guys who set this tournament on fire were the team of William Loyd and Todd Chapman with a huge sack of fish weighing in at 24lbs5ozs and they also had linker weighing in at 6lbs3ozs. Hey guys I am sorry about now annoucing the results but I was just too HOT and wanted to get to the sweet air. Second place went to Kenny Laxon and Aric Pankey with 14lbs13ozs and taking third was Ryan Spakes and Jason Burt with 14lbs3ozs. Results for Relay For Life Tournament June 5th at Bear Creek Lake

I really had a good time on Saturday with the Relay for Life people. I think we had a very good turnout for the first annual Relay for Life tournament, in memory of Larry Casey. I appreciate the help from Rob Kendrick, James Warren, David Dunigan and Ed Raper for this tournament. We raised 400 dollars to give to Relay for Life. As it was for a good cause, it also was a great day of fishing. The Winning Team was Ryan Spakes and Foster Mitchell. Second place was David White and Third place was Dustin Bonds and Casey Arnold. Dustin is the nephew of Larry Casey and Casey Arnold is the grandson, so it just seem fitting how the results turned out. The Larry Casey lunker award went with a fish weighing in at 5lbs2ozs to Casey Arnold and Dustin Bonds. I really appreicate everyone coming out and supporting the cause. The Relay for Life team was thrilled to be there and also many family members of Larry Casey where also thrilled to be there.

It was a hot but very productive day for fishing. Everyone weighed in a fish. I want to say thanks to Brian Bloesch, Larry Helmke, Ryan Spakes and Rob Kendrick for their help. Well we had a total of 15 boats show up for this tournement. The winning team with 18lbs 8ozs was Jeremy Lindley and David White which they also had big bass of the day weighing in at 6lbs 7ozs. Second Annual West Helena Bass Club Open Tournament

The Second Annual West Helena Bass Club Tournament is here. It will be on May 8, 2010 at Bear Creek Lake. You do not need to be a member to fish, just show up and be ready to compete. Now the enrty fee per person is 40 dollars and that includes big bass. Kids 15 and under get to fish free. There will be plaques given out for the top four places and a Lunker plaque also. I am going to pay out all the money back besides a few expenses for the tournament. I hope you can come enjoy the fun with the West Helena Bass Club. We love to have you come out and fish with us. Estimated Launch time is going to be 6:30 am and weigh in time is going to be 2:30pm. Do not forget about the slot limit on the Bass which is 13 inches to 16 inches you cannot keep. Well hope to see all the members and hopefully new guests also.

We had another great turn out with 20 plus boats for the Old Town Lake tournament. I am really pleased that we have had over 20 boats on the first two tournaments this year because last year we never broke the 20 boat mark. There where some good numbers turned in for this tournament, but there can only be one winner. So the winning team with a 5 fish limit weighing in at 19lbs15ozs was Tim Brock and Scott Carter. Second was Dustin Bonds and Tim Rawls weighing a 5 fish limit at 18lbs12ozs and also big fish of the day, weighing in at 5lbs14ozs. Third was Chuck Halbert and Rudy Mauldin weighing a 5 fish limit at 18lbs10ozs. The team of Eric Pankey and Kenny Laxon made the money cut at their fourth place finish with a 5 fish limit weighing in at 18lbs7ozs. Great job to the money winners. The trash fish pot was won by the team of Jeremy Lindley and Jeff Ashburn with a grinnell weighing in at 6lbs11ozs.

The West Helena Bass Club has set an attendance record with 24 boats showing up to fish. Man I could not be more proud of the attendance we had. I hope everyone had a very good time and hope to see you next tournament on April 10th at Old Town Lake. Well as bad as the conditions were there was alot of fish caught. We had 8 five fish limits and three 4 fish limits and several other fish caught. The champions of the day was Brian Bloesch and Larry Helmke with a total 5 fish limit weighing in at 20lbs 14 ozs. WOW Good job you two. Our second place team who is new to the West Helena Bass Club is William Loyd and Todd Chapman with a 5 fish limit weighing in at 16lbs 14ozs. Third place was Clay Bowen and David Dunigan weighing 5 fish limit of 15lbs 3ozs. We ended up paying out 5 places based on number of boats. So 4th was Ryan and Nathan Spakes and 5th was Mike Funk and Lee Keirsey. The big bass of the day was caught by the team of Sambo Sia and Blake Doster weighing in at 5lbs 11ozs. Trash Fish went to Ryan and Nathan spakes with catching a drum weighing in at 3lbs 14ozs. Congrats to all the winners.

New Rules and 2010 schedule has been set

We have a few new rules for this year and they were modified at our annual kickoff meeting. A new rule for this year in order to make the classic you have to pay for all 7 tournamnets and fish at least 5 of them. Now you will be able to drop your lowest scoring tournament. If you are disqualified from a tournament due to breaking rules or other deciding factors you must use the Zero points as one of your 6 tournament that you have to score. I will send everyone a copy of the rules through email. Also the 2010 schedule is set. We will have an open tournament this year for anyone to fish on May 8, 2010. This is not a points tournament for the club but all members need to try to fish this to help promote the club to the public.

UPDATED KICKOFF ANNUAL MEETING FOR 2010 SEASON

Our Kickoff annual meeting is going to be January 21, 2010 at the Farm Bureau Office located in West Helena. It will start at 6:30pm. Now I need for everyone who plans to fish to be there if possible so you can have input on the schedule and talk about rules. This is not a mandatory meeting if you cannot make it that is fine also. If you can I need to collect the 40 dollar membership so I can go ahead and get the insurance paid and ready for the 2010 season. Also we as a club will be selecting a committee of five guys who will help me with running the tournaments and vote on decisions during the tournament year.

Since the fishing season is done for this year and hunting season is here, to Keep all of us in touch with each other I am going to do a Big Buck and Big Doe Pot. Now this is starting now and I would like for everyone to get in. What you need to do to get in this is to just pay 20 dollars for the Big Buck and Big Doe Pot. What it is going to consist of is whoever kills the biggest buck by gross inches and no deductions for anything will win the Big Buck Pot. On the Big Doe Pot it going to be based on the measurement of the back of the ears to the end of her nose. Also going to use circumstance of the doe's head behind her ears to break ties. Now it has to be a legal kill and killed here in Arkansas. Ryan Spakes is going to be our offical scorer and all we need to score the buck is the horns that need to be still attached to the skull. What this means if you bring just a pair of horns that we can't see the width measurement it will not quailfy, so make sure you have them still attached to the skull, but it does not need to be the whole skull. The Doe all we neeed is the head. Now if you kill any kind of deer or anything else please send me pictures because I want to post them on the website. Isn't doesn't matter if you get in the pot or not, or if you wife or childern kill it I want a picture of it. My email address is on the website on the top right. Now the Deadline to get in this is October 25, 2009 and it will last until January 18, 2009 and payout will be at our annual West Helena Bass Club Meeting. So your money has to be in by 10/25/2009. Please tell everyone you know about this that has fished with us this year or even possible new members for next year. Again this is for fun and I trust everyone to be truthful with me. 2009 West Helena Bass Club Classic is October 4, 2009 on Sunday

We have 17 qualifiers since there was a tie for the 16th place. The lake for the classic will be drawn the day before from the lakes that we have fished so far this year. Our Points leader Dustin Bonds will be the one drawing the lake. I will post the lake on the website ASAP if you want to post your phone number and I will text you as soon as it is drawn. First place is guarenteed 1000 dollars and there will be plaques for first through third place. There will be NO ENTRY FEE but will have a big fish pot 10 dollars per person if you want to get in. Also our angler of the year will be crowned and also given a plaque and other prizes. The first Annual West Helena Bass Open Tournament was a beatuitful day for fishing. We had 19 boats turn out, our largest turn yet for one tournament. I want to say thanks for my help on advertising to John Gray for the radio commerical and Robbie Travis for helping with the Flyers and also Clay Bowen and David Dunigan. Well there was alot of fish caught numbering in at 44 that was weighed in. I winners for today taking home 400 dollars for first and 200 for lunker of the day was team of Michael Buie and Randy Dunigan weighing in at 15 lbs 9 ozs and just edging out the lunker with a 5lb 13.5ozs only beating the team of Matt and David Holland on their lunker by .5 ozs. Our second place team for the day was Clay Bowen and David Dunigan. Third place team was Tim Brock and Scott Carter and fourth place was Dustin Bonds and Foster Mitchell. Again I want to say thanks to Robbie Travis for helping me with everything, I could not make this happen without your help on tournament Day. Also thanks to Larry Helmke and Clay Bowen and David Dunigan.

Well it was a very good tournament for Maddoux Bay. Everyone caught plenty of fish. We had 12 boats and 11 of them turned in a limit. Our victors for today with 14lbs 9ozs was Brian Bloesch and Brandon Webster and they also had big fish. The Second place team consisted of John Gray and Chuck Halbert weighing in 12lbs 4ozs. Then the third place team of Scott Carter and Tim Brock with the weight of 9lbs 14ozs. Good job everyone. Arkansas Tournament Fishing

Hey guys we are going to be listed on the Arkansas Tournament Fishing Website and they might come to one of our events to take videos and pictures of us. This website has been established for people across the state to find local Bass Clubs. They are also trying to get a state fishing tournament started up for next year where all Local bass clubs come together to compete against each other. They have a website and I suggest everyone to look at it and if you want to make comments on it. Also they are doing a monthly prize sponsored by Academy Sports. I assume the monthly prize might be big fish or something in that aspect. So this is going to be good for us and a chance to compete against others. Entry Fee 30 dollars Let me Know

I would like to increase entry fee to 30 dollars per person and that is big bass included. This means a 40 dollar entry fee for the Bear Creek tournament in August that helps pay for the permit and insurance. I am trying to make sure we have plenty of money at the end to maybe pay two or three places at the classic. Right now we have about 1400 dollars in the bass club account. So please post your comments on this also.

I need some input on having a Open Tournament for the Bear Creek Tournament to get more people interested.

Our Indian Bay tournament was hot but there were alot of fish caught. The big bass catchers for this tournament were the team of Scott Cater and Tim Brock capturing first with the total weight of 13lbs 10ozs with lunker fish at 3lbs 8 ozs. Rounding up second and third place was the team of Robbie Travis/Ricky Miller with 12lbs 13 ozs and Scott Pryor/James Warren with 10 lbs 8 ozs. Phillips County Fishing Rodeo

The annual Phillips County Fishing Rodeo is June 13, 2009. So please bring your childern so they can enjoy the FUN. Also I need some fellow bass club members to volunteer to help on unloading all the prizes for the fishing Rodeo. I need for you to show up at Strom Creek at 5:00 am at the swimming are to help unload all the prizes for the fishing rodeo then you can take your child fishing after that. These guys who are putting together are really in need for help on the unloading. I hate to say this but will be fishing my Fishers Of Men Tourn that day or I would definitely be out there to help. The Annual Memorial Day Fireman Bubby Bass Drag Tournament has been postponed to a July 11th, due to the very high water levels of the White River. They are asking everyone who plans to fish to go ahead and pay your entry fee which is 50 dollars a boat so they can give the money to the Phillips County Fishing Rodeo on June 13. There were 14 boats to show up for today's event. We had 5 full limits of fish a total of 39 fish weighed. To top today's tournament with 5 fish limit weighing in at 19 pounds even were the tandem team of Clay Bowen and David Dunigan. Way to go guys. I think that was an excellent sack of fish compared to the rest. Coming in runner up was the duo of myself ( Scott Pryor) and Robbie Travis with a 5 fish limit weighing in at 13 pounds 3 ounces. Third was headed by the team of Dustin Bonds and Tim Rawls weighing in at 12 pounds 9 ounces. I want to say thanks for my help from Robbie Travis, Larry Helmke and Brian Bloesch. Also we will have a trash fish sidepot for the next Tournament. Hope to see you all there at Indian Bay.

1st Annual " Take Me Fishing" Tournament (Storm Creek)

On May 2nd, 2009 on Saturday the first ever "Take Me Fishing" Tournament will be held at Storm Creek. The Helena-West Helena Fire Dept will be putting on the tournament with the help of the West Helena Bass Club. This is a chance to take someone young fishing. You can weigh in any type of fish. There is a limit for each type of fish. You can weigh in 5 bass, 10 crappie, 10 Bream, and 10 catfish all at the same time but not to exceed the limit specified for each fish. The tournament is only 5 hours long starting at 6:30am to 11:30am. The entry fee is 20 dollars per boat with 5 dollar lunker fee per boat. First place is 50% of entry fees. One person in the boat must be under 16 years of age unless you are fishing with your parent, then you can be 18 years old. So bring a child and join the fun. For the third tournament of the year we had a total of 14 boats and 26 fishermen. The day was a beautiful but breezy day for this old town lake tournament. First I want to say thanks to Rudy Mauldin for letting us use his boat ramp and helping us with the weighing in site. There were a total of 38 fish weighed in with 6 full limits of fish. There were three heavy sacks of fish weighing in at 20 lbs or better. The winning team, Brian Bloesch and Larry Helmke, had almost a five pound average with total weight of 24lbs 7ozs. They also had the big fish with a wopping 7 lbs 6ozs. Congratulations you two on a very good sack of fish. The second place team was the one and only Scott Pryor and Robbie Travis with 21 lbs 8ozs. Great JOB!!! Third place was Tim Rawls and Dustin Bonds with 20lbs 3ozs. So it was a day of some major weight. I want to thank everyone for coming and hope everyone had a good time. We had 16 boats to fish today's event. With the windy but warm conditions there where many fish caught for this tournament. There where 44 fish caught with 5 teams coming in with a limit. The winners for this tournamant bagged five fish limit weighing in at 23lbs 2 ozs and they go by the names of Kenny Laxon and Aric Pankey. Our second place team also bagged a five fish limit weighing in at 16lbs 8ozs and they are Chuck Halbert and John Gray. Then another limit of fish weighing in at 13lbs 9ozs was by Matt Manning and Jason Rowan who finished up in third. The Big Lunker for today was caught by the team of Justin Spakes and Dale Godin at the weight of 6lbs 6ozs. I want to say thanks for everyone coming and hope to see everyone on April 4, 2009 at Old Town Lake. Please tell everyone you know about this club so we can have a great turnout for Old Town. The 30th annual Good Ole Boys fishing Tournament will be on March 28 and 29 2009. Saturday will be from daylight to 3:00. Then Sunday is going to be from daylight to 1:00. I would like to say thanks to Robbie Travis, Larry Helmke, and John Gray for their help. We had a good turn out despite the weather, with a total of 18 boats. The fishing conditions were tough for everyone even though there were some big bass caught. There was one limit caught, but a total of 30 fish. Ryan Spakes and his son Nathan captured the top prize with 3 fish weighing 12lbs 7 ozs and also big fish of 6lbs 7ozs. Then Dustin Bonds and Tim Rawls finsihed second on 3 fish weighing 11lbs 3ozs. Third was Clay Bowen and David Dunigan on 4 fish weighing 9lbs 11ozs. I would like to say to everyone thanks for coming. Can't wait to see you at Bear Creek.

Fire dept. tournament @ bear creek, March 22nd. $50 per boat(includes lunker). Plaques 1-3 place. 1st place will pay half of entry fee money. Also gonna try to do one @ Storm creek on April 18th. Only rule changes will be that you have to fish with a kid (under 16) Entry fee of $20 per boat, and you can weigh in bass, crappie or bream. Tryin to get kids into fishing and raise a lil money for the rodeo. All you daddy's bring your young un's.1st place will pay 50% of entry fees and plaques 1-3.

Bear Creek and Storm Creek permits

Just letting everyone know about what is going on with this permit thing. I have talked to the US Forrest Service and the initial cost for the permit is going to be 100 dollars but we have to provide insurance to fish these lakes and I am in the process of getting this. I plan on us fishing these lakes. We might have to up the cost for these tournaments to pay for it, but not a big increase.
